This moving and unconventional song cycle bursts with originality as it examines the interconnectedness of us all through life's shared experiences - from the hilarious to the heartbreaking.

From Drama Desk Award nominees Neil Bartram and Brian Hill (The Story of My Life), The Theory of Relativity is a joyous and moving look about our surprisingly interconnected lives.  Whether you're allergic to cats, in love for the first or tenth time, a child of divorce, a germaphobe or simply a unique individual, audience members and actors alike are sure to find themselves in this fresh new musical.

Through a seemingly unrelated collection of songs, scenes and monologues, The Theory of Relativity introduces a compelling array of characters experiencing the joys and heartbreaks, the liaisons and losses, the inevitability and the wonder of human connection.

Performed LIVE on Beddington Theatre Arts Centre, with audiences at limited assigned table seating, the show will also be streamed online for at-home viewing. Should provincial restrictions be lifted, more seats may be made available.

Check out the OUTDOOR SEATING PLAN here.

Should weather prevent a presentation, all ticket holders will be contacted and alternate arrangements will be made.

Should a scheduled show/active program be cancelled for reasons beyond the control of StoryBook Theatre, including weather or provincial health restrictions, a consideration for credit on file will be made at the discretion of the organization.

"Take a Physics manual, blend it with the sound of The Book of Mormon, the hilariously nerdy references of The Big Bang Theory , a sprinkle of Chicago, few drops of Glee, bake it in a Broadway bowl, use all the originality you can have....That’s the successful recipe for the spectacular song cycle, The Theory of Relativity."

Production Team & Faculty

Let us start by saying that the safety of our cast, crew, volunteers, patrons and community is paramount and our plan to move forward will always adhere to the regulations set forth by the federal, provincial and municipal governments.

For those wondering how we plan to make this all work on a production side please visit our SAFE REHEARSALS page for more information. This page will be updated as restrictions evolve. Continue reading below for the information as it relates to our audience.

As we plan to move forward with HOPE!  Rather than hide from the current regulations, we have made the choice to embrace them.  We know this could mean that we will not be presenting our shows to a live theatre audience as soon as we all would like, but we are also excited by the potential this challenge presents.  Should we not be able to present our show in person, we will move forward with measures to stream all our programming exclusively to our ticket holders online, as we did last season.  This plan will ensure that everyone will still receive our top-quality productions by an incredible community of artists allowing us to continue to engage with our community.

Please know that we are very optimistic that, in the coming months, we will be able to see an audience of some shape and size join us LIVE for our productions like they used to.  As the provincial and municipal guidelines for public gatherings and socialization shift and adjust, we are ready and prepared to do the same, moving closer and closer to bringing our community back together again and do what we do best.

Here is a snapshot of our current plan and how it relates to our audience.

We will follow the approved AHS Guidance when it comes to masking when at our performances.  We encourage those in attendance to do what makes them feel safe.

Our first two productions, Singers @ Sunset and The Theory of Relativity will be presented outdoors and will be restricted to small audience capacities.  All tables will be distanced and chairs will all be movable should a patron wish to make more room for themselves away from others.

Indoor performances have been announced and sales will commence with a seating capacity of 50% of the allowable limit.  When booking, your seating will automatically add empty seats next to yours keeping our audience socially distanced. Should restrictions ease and allowable capacities increased, those empty seats will become available for sale.

With an uncertain future for live theatre performances and assembly, we plan to sell tickets to our productions with the following considerations being made:

  1. All tickets will be sold as usual with guests selecting their desired seating for each person attending the show.

  2. All performances will be limited to just 50% of our occupancy being sold, with seats blocked out to ensure proper social distancing.

  3. Should government regulations move to Stage 3 and StoryBook feels it is safe to do so, all additional seats will be released, and the house will be open to full capacity.

  4. Tickets are being sold with the hope that all of our performances will be live and in-person but with the understanding that alternative options may be required should regulations not allow this to happen.

  5. Sixty days out from the opening night of each production, a final decision will be made based on regulations at that time on how the performance will move forward whether it be in streaming format online, live in person in the theatre, or a combination of the two.  Read more about Streaming here.

  6. When the time comes to present our productions live and in-person all social gathering protocols will be adhered to and any safety measures being taken will be noted in an email prior to arrival for the show.

  7.  All our policies have been updated to reflect our current times and will apply to all new purchases.  The following are two key policies to be made aware of. The full list of policies can be found here.

If you cannot attend a performance IN-PERSON it is your responsibility to contact StoryBook no less than 2-HOURS PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE TIME. We are happy to accommodate changes to tickets provided there is space and availability and it is not within the 2-hour window.  A $1 per ticket charge will be applied for each and every approved change.

If you cannot attend a performance ONLINE it is your responsibility to contact StoryBook no less than 7 days PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE TIME.  We are happy to accommodate changes to tickets provided there is space and availability and it is not within the 7-day window.  A $1 per ticket charge will be applied for each and every approved change.  If your purchase is made within the 7-day window there are no exchanges permitted.

All Theatre Tickets and Theatre School Programs are non-refundable.

Tickets and Programming purchased between July 5, 2021, to June 30, 2022 are made with the understanding that StoryBook will make every effort possible to present the programming purchased in a live format in which the purchaser can attend unless otherwise stated.  Live presentations are subject to the federal, provincial and municipal controls in place for social gatherings and StoryBook will uphold those regulations for the safety of its casts, crews, staff and patrons.  Should a live format presentation not be possible StoryBook will provide an alternative form for presentation and will notify the purchaser within 30 days of the scheduled purchased event of the change.  There will be no exchange, credit or refund when this occurs.

Should a scheduled show be cancelled for reasons beyond the control of StoryBook Theatre a consideration for credit on file will be made at the discretion of the organization.

Should a scheduled show be cancelled at the choice of StoryBook Theatre patrons will be given the option for exchange, credit, tax receipt or refund.
