Sponsorship Opportunities

Courage begins with being true to yourself.

At StoryBook Theatre, bravery takes many forms—standing up, speaking out, taking a chance, or simply daring to dream. Over the years, SBT has become more than a theatre; it’s a home where courage and creativity come together, where young artists and families alike find the strength to express themselves and share their stories.

Our community—on stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience—thrives on the belief that being brave means being you.

Join SBT on our mission to inspire courage through the magic of theatre.

Season 49, The Season to Be Brave, features five mainstage productions and a collection of special concerts and fundraisers that celebrate boldness, resilience, and the power of imagination. These stories remind us that courage doesn’t always roar—it often whispers, “Try again,” and leads us to the people and places that help us grow stronger together.

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID is proudly presented by THE SMITH & FREDRIKSEN FAMILIES!

StoryBook Theatre (SBT) is more than a venue—it’s a vibrant community where families across generations come together to enjoy the magic of live theatre. The Smith and Frederiksen Families deeply feel this sense of community. As shared by Melissa, the spokesperson for the families, their long-standing connection to SBT spans over 40 years, when Melissa’s parents, Jewel and Greg, started taking her to productions at SBT’s original stage at The Pumphouse Theatre. Their family’s story is a testament to the enduring power of live theatre, where generations come together to experience both StoryBook’s engaging performances and life-changing opportunities.

STB was the first live theatre experience for Melissa, and sparked a life-long interest in the performing arts.  As soon as her child Alex was old enough, Melissa began taking them first to StoryBook’s enchanting Cookie Cabaret shows, then to full-scale productions, sharing those early moments of wonder. For many years since, the family has been season ticket holders, ensuring they never miss out on the heartwarming stories and thrilling performances SBT brings to life. As Alex got older, they began participating in SBT’s theatre school programming and also performed in SBT’s SSIP productions of PIPPIN and HEATHERS.  For Alex, StoryBook has provided an inclusive, welcoming space, where friendships and a sense of belonging were found. SBT became a second home, one of inclusion and inspiration.

As SBT has played an important part in three generations of their families’ lives. The Smith and Frederiksen families have made it a priority to support SBT over the years, both through donations and by volunteering. Melissa’s time on the board of directors not only allowed her to give back to StoryBook but also connected her to the incredible community that makes SBT so unique. It was more than just volunteering; it was joining a family that, like the characters on stage, is full of creativity, dedication, and a shared love for storytelling.

SBT’s Season 48 theme, “Season to Belong,” resonated deeply with the Smith and Frederiksen families, as they believe SBT not only provides important access to theater for families in the Calgary community, but also creates a safe and inclusive community of belonging for all of its members.  As a result, they made the decision to increase their support of SBT by becoming show sponsors for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, as they believe its themes of navigating social challenges and finding your place in the world are increasingly relevant and important, as young adults work to navigate an increasingly complicated world. It was a story that resonated with their kids, parents, and grandparents alike.

StoryBook Theatre would like to thank the Smith and Frederiksen families for their generous support, which will help create a future where more families can find a home, where everyone BELONGS.

Why YOU Should Consider Sponsorship

Sponsoring a production at StoryBook Theatre is more than just supporting the arts—it’s about fostering a community where people of all ages can find a sense of belonging. For families like the Smiths and Frederiksens, SBT has been a space where meaningful connections are made, and where kids, teens, and adults can see themselves reflected in the stories on stage. Your sponsorship is not just a financial contribution but a personal investment in the future of everyone involved in our organization.

If you’re looking for a way to give back and make a difference, please consider joining StoryBook’s family of sponsors. Your support can help create meaningful spaces where every generation can find their voice, their community, and their home—just like the Smith and Frederiksen families have.
