Greg Bond
Inspiring Artist of Tomorrow Award
Beginning in 2025, the Greg Bond Inspiring Artist of Tomorrow Award will be presented each summer during StoryBook Theatre’s Students’ Summer Intensive Program to one or two students who embody the heart, artistry, and generosity of a true musical theatre performer—qualities that defined Calgarian Greg Bond. Recipients of this award will receive full tuition to the following year’s Summer Intensive, allowing them to continue to grow and inspire others through their craft.
Greg Bond (1954–1989) was a celebrated Calgary-born singer, actor, and composer whose career spanned acclaimed roles such as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats to original compositions like those in his one-man show Heroes. To her dying day, Greg’s mother insisted that his talent and spirit be celebrated through a scholarship for emerging artists. That wish has been lovingly carried forward with the help of the Toronto Community Foundation, which manages the fund to this day. Greg’s sister and wife have now chosen StoryBook Theatre as the continuing recipient of this legacy, ensuring his passion for mentoring young artists lives on. For many years, the Calgary Betty Mitchell Awards also honoured Greg’s memory with the Greg Bond Memorial Award, which recognized inspiring professional artists—an honour received in 2018 by StoryBook’s own Artistic Producer, JP Thibodeau. Through the Greg Bond Inspiring Artist of Tomorrow Award, StoryBook Theatre is honoured to carry this legacy forward. By recognizing one or two outstanding students each summer—young performers who demonstrate generosity of spirit, creative excellence, and a deep love of storytelling—this award ensures Greg’s belief in the transformative power of theatre continues to shine for years to come.

Congratulations to our recipients.
