Relaxed & Community Performances

At StoryBook Theatre, accessibility and inclusion are built into our programming. For each production, we host one special evening that combines both a Relaxed Performance and a Community Performance — a night designed to welcome everyone. This combined event creates a supportive, inclusive, and joy-filled environment where families, first-time theatre-goers, and audience members with diverse needs can come together to experience the magic of live theatre without barriers.

A Relaxed Performance offers a more flexible and sensory-friendly theatre experience. During these performances, certain elements of traditional theatre etiquette are adjusted — lighting levels remain slightly raised, sudden sounds or effects may be softened, and movement or quiet vocalizations are accepted without judgment. This environment benefits individuals who may find typical performances challenging, including people with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, dementia, learning differences, or anyone who prefers a more relaxed atmosphere. Additional staff are on hand to ensure comfort and safety, allowing for monitored re-entry throughout the performance. Twenty seats are reserved specifically for patrons who wish to attend, which can be accessed by contacting the StoryBook Box Office directly by phone or email.

Our Community Performance is offered in partnership with Kids Up Front Calgary, who distribute complimentary tickets to children and families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend live theatre. For many, this is their first introduction to the performing arts — and when paired with a relaxed performance, it provides a safe, flexible, and welcoming way to learn about theatre etiquette while enjoying an unforgettable night out. Together, these performances embody StoryBook’s commitment to making theatre a place where everyone belongs.

The shows are placed on hold and appear SOLD OUT online, but in fact they are held specifically for folx, probably like those reading this, who wish to attend.  By clicking the link below you will be invited to email making a request for access to the seating for these shows.   Our box office team will tag your StoryBook account which will allow you full access to the seats available.
