  • There’s something wonderfully outrageous, wildly joyful, and undeniably brave about MisCast—our annual fundraiser that flips tradition on its head and invites performers to take on roles they would never be cast in… and absolutely own them.

As part of our 49th Season to be Brave, MisCast is more than just an evening of boundary-breaking performances and show-stopping surprises. It is a bold celebration of freedom, creativity, and what it means to break the rules in the name of joy. And it’s one of the most vital nights of the year for the future of StoryBook Theatre.

That’s because MisCast proudly supports the Ellie Tims Project, the heart of our commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Named in honour of our visionary founder, this initiative helps remove the financial and social barriers that often stand between young people and their chance to shine. Through the Ellie Tims Project, we offer bursaries, free programs, and outreach opportunities—ensuring that every child, no matter their background, has access to the magic of live theatre.

MisCast embodies that mission perfectly. It’s about creating space—for unexpected voices, new perspectives, and a whole lot of laughter. It reminds us that when we dare to step outside the box, that’s where the real magic happens.

Every ticket, every laugh, every standing ovation helps fuel the work we do—not just on stage, but in classrooms, communities, and young hearts across Calgary. MisCast may be a night of fun, but its impact is lasting and deeply meaningful.

Thank you for celebrating bravery, creativity, and inclusivity with us. Your support helps us build a world where everyone has a chance to take center stage.

    With gratitude and admiration,

    JP Thibodeau
    Artistic Director, StoryBook Theatre

  • There is no night quite like MisCast.

It’s wild, it’s unpredictable, it’s hilarious—and most of all, it’s brave. MisCast is a night where the rules of casting go out the window, and performers step into roles they’ve always dreamed of but would never “traditionally” be cast in. And let me tell you—it’s nothing short of electric.

But what makes this event truly extraordinary isn’t just the concept. It’s the people behind it.

Each one of tonight’s performers is a volunteer—generous, passionate artists who have donated their time, their energy, and their hearts to this fundraiser, not for glory, but for the good of the community. They have rehearsed late into the evenings, taken bold risks, and thrown themselves into this experience with humor and heart. That kind of bravery? It’s what theatre is all about.

I am endlessly proud to watch them take the stage tonight. To see them defy expectations, embrace the absurd, and deliver performances that are honest, fearless, and unforgettable—it fills me with gratitude and awe.

MisCast is more than a night of entertainment. It’s a celebration of possibility. It reminds us that talent knows no bounds, and that the stage belongs to everyone.

To our volunteers—you are the heartbeat of this show, and the reason we can continue to do the important work we do at StoryBook Theatre.
To our audience—thank you for supporting this wildly wonderful night and the greater mission it serves.

Enjoy the surprises. Cheer loudly. And celebrate the beautiful miscasting of it all.

    With pride and appreciation,

    JP Thibodeau
    Director
