Box Office & Venue Assistant

Position - Full Time/Part Time
Wage - $18/hr

StoryBook Theatre and the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre is looking for dynamic Box Office & Venue Assistants to join our team! This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about the arts, who thrives in a customer-facing environment, and is eager to contribute to the smooth running of

front-of-house and venue operations.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Box Office Management: Handle ticket sales, customer inquiries, and reservations in a fast-paced environment.

  • Venue Operations: Assist with coordinating and managing venue rentals, ensuring smooth setup, transitions, and break-down of events.

  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance, helping with office duties as required.

  • Customer Engagement: Be the friendly face of StoryBook Theatre, ensuring patrons have a great experience from entry to exit.

  • Facility Support: Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the venue during performances and events.
     

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong multitasker with excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Comfortable working in a customer service role and responding to inquiries.

  • Previous experience in an administrative or box office role is an asset but not required.

Bartender

Position - Casual
Wage - $18/hr

Are you an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a lively environment? StoryBook Theatre is seeking a Casual Bartender to join our team. You'll serve drinks during our events and productions, contributing to an enjoyable experience for our patrons.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve beverages efficiently and responsibly.

  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the bar area.

  • Provide excellent customer service to our patrons.
     

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ with valid ProServe certification.

  • Previous bartending experience is an asset but not required.

Front of House Manager

Whether you're aspiring to a theatre career or already established, our productions offer diverse roles suited to various levels of experience, ranging from volunteer opportunities to paid positions.

Production Contracts & Compensation at StoryBook Theatre

StoryBook Theatre offers a range of production contracts based on experience, education, and role-specific requirements. All artists are engaged under contract and compensated for their work. Below is an outline of the expected wages for working with us.

Eligibility Requirements (Effective 2025/26 Season)

To ensure high artistic standards and provide mentorship opportunities for emerging artists, new eligibility criteria will apply to key creative roles:

Director

Must be a CAEA member with at least three years of professional directing experience OR five years of professional acting credits.

Choreographer & Musical Director

Must have at least three years of professional or semi-professional experience.

Must have previously worked with StoryBook Theatre in an assistant role.


Note: Emerging artists are encouraged to gain experience through honorarium-based assistant roles, such as Assistant Director, Assistant Musical Director, and Assistant Choreographer. Exceptions to eligibility may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation Overview

Director * – Engaged under CAEA Guest Artist (DOT)

Choreographer  – Estimated $3,000 or CAEA Guest Artist (DOT)

Musical Director  – Estimated $3,000

Theatre Technicians – $18/hr

Stage Managers – Estimated $4,500

Assistant Stage Managers – Estimated $2,000

Sound Designers – Estimated $1,200

Lighting Designers – Estimated $2,500

Set Designers – Estimated $2,500

Costume Designers – Estimated $2,500

Costume Designer - SHREK THE MUSICAL

Produciton Commitment & Deadline Information

Costume Designer Role

  • Designing and realizing costumes for a cast of fairy-tale misfits, royalty, ogres, and more!

  • Working closely with the Director (Andrew Tribe), Musical Director (Ethan Vasquez Taylor), and Choreographer (Greg Pember) to ensure costume fits the vision. SBT 2025

  • Overseeing fittings, sourcing fabrics/props, coordinating costume changes.

  • Bringing out the humour, heart and visual magic of Shrek’s world!

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in theatrical costume design (preferred)

  • Strong sense of character style & world-building
