This powerful adaptation, supported by a lyrical score, focuses the humor, warmth and emotional intensity of Katherine Paterson's Newbery Award winning novel. Jesse, alienated from the pragmatism of his family and rural Virginia culture, draws and dreams of becoming something special. Leslie, the new girl from the city and the ultimate outsider, opens a world of imagination, art and literature for him. Together they create Terabithia, a fantasy kingdom where they are safe from those who don't understand them. Their friendship grows as Jesse's world expands. When tragedy strikes, the strength gained in Terabithia takes Jesse forward on his own and lets him share the magic of his dreams.

StoryBook Theatre will invite select performers to be part of this unique workshop and performance experience, which will result in the world premier musical Urban Jungle Book. Led by the award winning team of composer and musical director Joe Slabe and director JP Thibodeau this is certain to be an incredible experience for everyone involved.

Michael is a foster child with a vivid imagination. Whenever the world gets a bit much for him, he retreats into the amazing world inside his head, and the people in his life become the characters from his favourite story – The Jungle Book. But when Michael’s real father comes back to claim him, his world is turned upside down and he must find the courage to live in the real world and find the true meaning of family. The Urban Jungle Book is a modern take on the Rudyard Kipling stories and uses pop, rock and rap music to tell them in a way you’ve never heard (or seen) before!

PARENTAL NOTE:  This show does deal with the death of a parent and does
not  the shy away from the conversation and therefore we caution those with sensitive children.

THIS IS NOT BASED ON THE ORIGINAL STORIES OF RUDYARD KIPLING - NOT ANY INCARNATION CREATED BY DISNEY.

It is March, 2000. A child’s suitcase arrives from Auschwitz at the tiny Holocaust Education Centre in Tokyo. Painted on the side are a name, Hana Brady, 1931, and the word “Waisenkind” (orphan). Spurred on by the children at the Centre, the curator Fumiko Ishioka, embarks on a relentless search from Tokyo to Prague to Toronto to uncover the story of Hana and her fate. In this inventive, multi-media staging of a true story, we see the Centre’s students discover a tale of family love and tragedy; and through their learning about this shameful chapter in history, find a key to tolerance and hope for the future.
